Hold a Free Party

The Free Party Project is a platform for staging multi-media gatherings aimed at changing the consciousness of society, communicating with like minded people and simply having a good time.

There a 3 very simple core principles that underpin holding a Free Party Project. These are non-negotiable and form the only rules in an otherwise border-less community.

1. TURN UP – Place, time and reason. Where will it be, when will it be and why will it be? The Free Party Project aims to illicit change through positive expression so think about the place you hold your event, the time it is held and the reason. Place and time are a matter of choice however reason must be positive. Why hold an event anti-something when it could be pro-something. Choose to focus not on what we should fear but on what needs our love. Not on want we want removed from society but on what we choose to add. Choose a time and a place which will magnify the reason for the gathering.

2. TUNE IN – The music which is central to every event must be supplied by the organiser and broadcast over a short range radio transmitter. This frees the event from the boundaries of needing big power and sound systems and allows daytime events to run off solar power and nighttime events to run off batteries. The more methods you can think of to stream, transmit, beam and share the music the better. Just respect the existing airwaves and other Free Party Events and make sure you choose frequencies that wont interfere with existing radio or Events.

3. BE FREE – There is no money involved in Free Party, not now and not ever. DO NOT CHARGE for free party events. Do not sell anything or encourage anything to be sold. Do not hire venues, pay staff or in any way bring money into the events. All the assistance you get must be from people who want to help for free and who want to use their time to improve the event for everyone. If you can’t get something for free look for another avenue. If you happen to be offered sponsorship, ask the sponsor to use their money to provide something which improves the event for everyone attending but don’t take or use their money directly. Whilst there is nothing wrong with buying things to bring to the event (Equipment, snacks, gifts etc..) don’t bring money to the events. Leave that for the rest of the world. Free Party is a trade economy where your real currency is your time and energy.

And when the Project is over…

leave only your energy in the air…

leave the venue as you found it and the world just a little bit better than before…

Thank you so much for the feedback :)

Yes, in conventional thinking there is the link between cost and value. But.. and here’s the big but, you are still operating from the “us and them” thinking of charging for your event. Can’t blame you for thinking this way because this is how we are all programmed to think. Doesn’t make it right however :)

Also… remember that there is no us and them. Every person attending the event is responsible for the event. There is no promoter delivering an event. There is a community coming together to have a celebration of music and freedom. There is no delivery only sharing.

I know… it’s a big shift from conventional thinking… it feels uncomfortable… anything new does. That discomfort is TOTALY expected and perfectly normal. However, you need to move away from the normal and be totally open to the possibility that you have the right to have fun for free. That you have the right to share your time and energy for nothing more than the reward of enjoyment. You also need to open your heart to people around you and not ask them to prove their intentions with paper printed by the National Press. Rather allow them to prove their intentions through actions.

We have no intention of persuading anyone that what we are doing has value to them, we will simply go ahead and do what will be done and allow people to judge the value by themselves.

Also… even by resting this idea, you would assist it’s growth. The only way to truly destroy ideas is by ignoring and forgetting them so by all means, challenge, question, argue and criticize.. WE WELCOME IT :)

i like the idea but have an initial resistance to not charging anything for the party. by keeping the party free, the message is unfortunately lost. people generally only accept something of perceived value. only once you’ve convinced them that it’s worth a couple of bucks will anyone absorb the message!

i have no intention of providing resistance to your fantastic idea, and wish you the best with it. change begins from the inside.
